To become an Appointed Doctor under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 the doctor must:
1) Hold current registration with the General Medical Council and a licence to practise
2) Hold as a minimum a Diploma in Occupational Medicine or equivalent
3) Hold a current training certificate in ionising radiation.
There are no fees charged for a doctor to be appointed under the ionising radiation regulations 2017

Only doctors registered and licensed to practice by the UK GMC and meet the requirements specified by HSE can be come appointed doctors under the ionising radiation regulations. Doctors who are applying to be appointed under regulations within Northern Ireland will need to contact the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland.

Non-GB occupational medicine qualifications would be recognised if equivalent to the minimum of Diploma in Occupational Medicine.
Non-GB ionising radiation training courses would be recognised if equivalent to those in GB
Note: for reasons of jurisdiction, a HSE Appointed Doctor can only work in GB
