Regulation summary
The role of the AMED is to ensure commercial divers are fit to dive as required under the Diving at Work Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005. Only doctors approved by HSE are permitted to conduct this work.

To become an AMED under The Diving at Work Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 the doctor must:
1) Hold current registration with the General Medical Council and a licence to practise
2) Hold as a minimum a Diploma in Occupational Medicine or equivalent

Only doctors registered and licensed to practice by the UK GMC and meet the requirements specified by HSENI can be come approved under the Northern Ireland Diving at Work Regulations. Doctors who are applying to be appointed under regulations within GB will need to contact the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland.

Hold current registration with the General Medical Council and a licence to practise Non-GB occupational medicine qualifications would be recognised if equivalent to the minimum of Diploma in Occupational Medicine. Non-GB diving medicine training certificate would be recognised if equivalent to
those in GB
