Regulation summary

The SSSC Register was set up under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 to regulate for the social work, social care and early years workforce.

Care Inspectorate Authorised Officer's are responsible for the planning and carrying out scrutiny activities. Providing feedback to people experiencing care and service providers on the findings of scrutiny activities.

You must be registered within 6 months of starting this role.

Routes to qualification

There are two parts to Care Inspector qualification requirements.

You must have a practice qualification to apply for registration and must also hold an acceptable regulators award or agree to achieve it within the first five years of registration.

The benchmark practice qualifications:

*PDA Childhood Practice (at SCQF level 9)
*BA Childhood Practice
*Postgraduate Diploma Childhood Practice
*BA(Hons) Social Work
*SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 9
*SVQ Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 9
*BA Social Pedagogy

The benchmark Regulator's awards:
*Regulation of Care Award
*PDA Scrutiny and Improvement Practice (Social Services) SCQF level 10

Routes to recognition within the UK

The SSSC holds a list of acceptable qualifications from across the UK and their website indicates the range of qualifications that are accepted for registration.

If you hold an award which is not on this list, you will still apply for registration and the award would be considered.

None - all professionals must re-qualify
Summary of routes

We do not assess international social care qualifications for registration on any function-based part of the register.

You can contact your learning provider to find out if you can use your international qualification for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

You must register with the Scottish Social Services Council within 6 months of starting this role

You must pay the relevant fee to apply for and maintain your registration.

You must complete Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) to maintain your registration
