We are an internationally recognised professional body. Membership of CABE shows your peers, employers and the public that you are a competent and ethical professional who can be relied upon to strive for the highest possible standards.
CABE members work across the life-cycle of the built environment specialising across a wide range of disciplines. By bringing these disciplines together CABE shares knowledge, raises standards and develops professionals, enabling a professional construction sector that works to create better, safer and more sustainable buildings that enhance people’s lives.
CABE has seven grades of membership, with each grade representing a professional's level of competence, skills, knowledge and experience:
Student
Technician Member (Tech CABE)
Graduate Member (Grad CABE)
Associate Member (ACABE)
Chartered Member (MCABE)
Chartered Building Engineer (MCABE C.Build E)
Chartered Fellow (FCABE C.Build E).

Qualifications and experience
New professionals
- Routes to qualification

Chartered Association of Buildin Engineers (CABE) offers different routes into membership, each one is based on your professional experience and qualifications.
At the start of your membership journey you will be asked to submit your CV so that we can help to guide you to the most appropriate route.
Chartered Membership (MCABE, MCABE C.Build E or FCABE)
To qualify as a Chartered Member you will be asked to produce a technical report submission including outlining how you meet the competencies in the CABE Membership Competency Framework.
You will also be required to pass a peer-reviewed professional interview.Technician, Associate and Graduate Membership
The developmental grades of membership are for those individuals with less experience in the industry. You will be asked to evidence competences against the CABE Membership Competency Frameworks, providing evidence of your work experience and any qualifications.Student Membership
Open to all students studying a construction related course.Equivalent Membership
If you have professional membership with a recognised organisation you may be able to apply for equivalent membership.
