Qualifications and experience

New professionals

Routes to qualification

If you are applying for professionally qualified membership, you need to demonstrate the required levels of:

Stage 1 - Educational base
Stage 2 - Initial Professional Development
Stage 3 - Competence and Commitment

Stage 1 requirement is either the necessary accredited qualifications or the successful completion of an Individual Case Procedure (ICP).

Stage 2 requirement is either the successful completion of an IChemE Accredited Company Training Scheme (ACTS) or a self-managed Initial Professional Development (IPD) assessment.

Stage 3 requirement is successful completion of IChemE's professional review, which includes a written submission and usually an interview.

Professionals from outside the UK

Some - qualifications from some countries may be recognised, but professionals from other countries will have to re-qualify
Summary of routes

Your qualifications and experience gained outside the UK may be recognised by international accords through the International Engineering Alliance and / or via bilateral mutual recognition agreements.

Registration requirements

IChemE members may be eligible to apply for external registrations such as Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) depending on their membership grade.

IChemE is also licensed to award registrations on behalf of the following bodies:
