Regulation summary
First established in 1919, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is the chartered body for professionals involved in the movement of goods and people and their associated supply chains.
CILT represents five distinct communities across the profession: Logistics & Freight Movement, People Mobility, Planning in Transport, Operations and Supply Chain Management and Sustainability & the Global Community and provide specialist activities and multi-sector engagement through their associated forums and policy groups.

Protected titles
A member of each of the following grades in the Institute will be issued with a certificate to confirm acceptance to that membership grade and may, in order to indicate membership, use the appropriate post-nominal letters in respect of such grade, namely:
In the case of a Chartered Fellow or Emeritus Fellow: FCILT
In the case of a Chartered Member: CMILT
In the case of a Member: MILT
A member of each of these grades shall be a voting Member of the Institute.
Qualifications and experience
New professionals

Member (MILT):
To qualify for member status you will need a relevant level 3 qualification OR the CILT certificate and at least three years relevant work experience in the profession OR a relevant level 4 qualification and at least two years relevant experience in the profession OR the CILT Professional Diploma and two years relevant experience in the profession.
Alternatively if you do not hold a relevant qualification but have at least five years’ experience (including three years at a supervisory, first line, or junior management level), you may also be eligible for this grade’.
Chartered Member (CMILT):
To apply you will need an accredited degree and four years’ experience (two at senior level) or a relevant level 6 qualification and five years in the profession (two at senior level) or a non-relevant degree and seven years in the profession (two at senior level).
Alternatively if you do not hold a relevant qualification but have at least seven years’ experience (including two years at a senior level), you may also be eligible for this grade subject to providing suitable evidence to demonstrate this.
Chartered Fellow (FCILT):
To qualify for Chartered Fellow status you will need at least seven years’ experience with a high level of management responsibility.

As a leading professional institute, CILT have made a strong commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and all members, across the nine Professional Sectors, are expected to adopt the philosophy as part of their own career paths. Commitment to CPD will be seen as a key indicator when seeking to upgrade to higher levels of CILT membership.
