Regulation summary
Radiation Protection is defined as "The protection of people from harmful effects of exposure to radiation, and the means for achieving this". Exposure can be from a source of radiation external to the human body or due to internal irradiation caused by the ingestion of radioactive contamination. In the modern world radiation is used in a wide range of industries including nuclear power, medicine (including dentistry and veterinary medicine), industrial radiography, thickness gauging, the oil and gas industry, and in research and development.
People working in the field can work towards obtaining professional registration from Technical Radiation Protection Professional (TechRadP); Incorporated Radiation Protection Professional (IRadP) through to Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (CRadP) through the Society for Radiological Protection.

In common with several other UK professional registration schemes, three levels of registration have now been established, to encompass a spectrum of qualifications, skills, and experience within radiation protection practice.
To be a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional you will provide guidance on and/or generates radiation protection standards. You will have extensive knowledge and responsible professional experience in Radiation Protection and its allied fields and may work in a range of diverse areas. The postnominal awarded is CRadP.
Other levels of registration are available:
To be an Incorporated Radiation Protection Professional you will provide guidance on radiation protection and to be a Technical Radiation Protection Professional you will implement radiation protection measures and work in a practical role within the radiation protection industry.These professional titles are awarded by the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP) as a licensee of the Radiation Protection Council, and are available to any full member of the Society as well as IRPA Affiliate organisations members.

These Professional titles are awarded by the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP) and are available to any full member of the Society as well as IRPA Affiliate organisations members.
Once your application has been accepted there are conditions which you must meet to maintain your Registration. You must:
1) Comply with SRP's Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct
Make sure that you are aware of its contents and ensure that you always follow it in your professional work.2)Undertake, and be able to evidence, ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
CPD is a continuing process of personal growth to improve your capability and to realise your full potential as a professional. This is achieved by obtaining and developing a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience which are not normally acquired during initial training or routine work and which together develop your competence.3) Pay the annual fee
