Chartered Scientists demonstrate the ability to deal with complex issues and communicate their conclusions to a range of audiences, show originality in problem solving and substantial autonomy in planning and implementing tasks. They continue to advance their knowledge, understanding and competence throughout their career as demonstrated through evidence of CPD.

Routes to qualification

Chartered Scientist registration is gained through an application based on professional experience, a competency report and academic qualifications (level 7 or equivalent professional experience). Membership of one of the Science Council’s Licensed Bodies is also required in order to be eligible.

Professionals from outside the UK

All - there are routes to recognition for professionals from all countries
Summary of routes

CSci is available to applicants from outside the UK, and the application is reviewed against the same requirements. Where educational levels differ, equivalency may be required.


Registration

Registration requirements

CSci is for those working in sciences who have a level 7 qualification in science or equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience. Individuals must be able to evidence that they meet the CSci competencies and undertake CPD.
