Qualified teachers from Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) can apply to be recognised by GTCNI.
Teachers who have obtained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) awarded by either the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA, or its predecessor/s) or the Welsh Education Workforce Council (EWC, or its predecessor/s); or hold registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, may be eligible for registration with GTCNI.
Teachers qualified in Great Britain must have completed a Bachelor of Education degree, an approved Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma of Education or other approved teaching training course. For those who completed a Postgraduate teaching qualification, they must also hold an Undergraduate degree.
For teachers who have obtained their teacher education qualifications in Scotland, the course must be GTC Scotland approved.
For teachers who have obtained their teacher education qualifications in England or Wales, the courses must lead to the granting of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
GTCNI does not recognise QTS awards by assessment route only obtained in less than one academic year.
GTCNI do not recognise QTLS, Post-Compulsory or Further Education qualifications completed in Great Britain for registration as a school teacher. The Further Education sector is not overseen by GTCNI and registration is not required for teaching in the Further Education sector in Northern Ireland.
